This privacy policy applies to the Android app Notepad, developed by codeblanks.

This app does not collect, store or transmit any personal data.

Data we collect

None. The app has no server and does not connect to the internet. You are never asked to create an account, sign in, or provide an email address or phone number. The app contains no analytics, advertising or crash reporting.

Where your data lives

Your notes, attached images, drawings, categories and app settings are stored only in your own device's private app storage. Android isolates this area from other apps, so no other app can read it.

Important

Uninstalling the app deletes all of this data from the device, and that cannot be undone. To avoid losing your notes, please use the export feature before uninstalling.

Encryption

When you turn on “Enable encryption” in settings, note contents are encrypted with AES-256. The key is held in the Android Keystore, is hardware-backed where the device supports it, and cannot leave the device. Neither the developer nor any third party can access that key.

App lock and biometrics

The app lock password is never stored in plain text; only a salted hash (PBKDF2) is kept on the device. Biometric verification is handled entirely by Android itself — fingerprint or face data never reaches the app, which is only told whether verification succeeded.

Permissions

The app asks you for no runtime permissions at all. You will never see a permission prompt while using it. The only two permissions it declares are “normal” level in Android, which means they raise no prompt and grant no access to your personal data.

Every permission the app declares.
Permission Why
Biometrics (USE_BIOMETRIC) To unlock the app with fingerprint or face. Android itself performs the verification; fingerprint or face data never reaches the app.
Vibration (VIBRATE) Haptic feedback when you tap a button.

Features that need no permission

A few features look as though they touch your files, but they need no permission, because access is granted by you rather than taken by the app:

  • Attaching an image to a note — Android's own image picker opens. The app has no access to your gallery; it receives only the single file you pick in that window.
  • Exporting — through Android's Storage Access Framework (SAF) you choose where the file is written. The app gets write access to that one file only and cannot see the rest of the folder.

The app declares no camera, microphone, location, contacts, calendar, notification or network (internet) permission. Because it has no internet permission in particular, it is technically unable to send or receive data over a network. You can verify this yourself under “App permissions” on the app's Google Play page.

Exporting and sharing

When you export notes as JSON or plain text (.txt), the file is written to a location you choose. When you share a note, Android's share sheet opens and the content goes only to the app you pick. From that point on, where the file is kept and who it is shared with is under your control and falls outside the scope of this policy.

Device backup

If Android's own backup system (Google Backup) is enabled, the operating system may include app data in your device backup. That process is run by Android and governed by Google's privacy terms; codeblanks has no access to such a backup. You can turn backup off in your device settings if you prefer.

Third parties

The app contains no ad network, analytics library, crash reporting tool or tracking SDK. No data is shared with any third party and no data is sold.

Children

The app does not knowingly collect data from children — it collects data from no one. There is no user-to-user interaction, chat, or sharing of user-generated content inside the app.

Your rights

Because all of your data lives on your device, you are in full control of it: you can edit, delete or export your notes from inside the app at any time. The developer holds no personal data of yours that you could ask to have deleted or corrected.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, this page is updated and the date above changes. If a feature is added that materially changes how data is handled (cloud backup, for example), the change will also be announced in the app's release notes.
