JSON Formatter

Optimize, minify, and validate your JSON code.

How to use the JSON Formatter

Minified API responses and config files are hard to read. Paste your JSON here to pretty-print it with 4-space indentation, check that it is valid or compress it into a single line.

  1. Paste your JSON into the input box.
  2. Click Format to pretty-print it, or Minify to remove all whitespace.
  3. If the JSON is invalid, an error message tells you what went wrong.
  4. Copy the result with the copy button, or clear both boxes to start again.

Frequently asked questions

Is my JSON sent to a server?
No. Formatting and validation happen entirely in your browser with JavaScript, so your data never leaves your device.
Why is my JSON invalid?
The most common causes are trailing commas, single quotes instead of double quotes, keys without quotes, comments, and values like undefined or NaN. None of these are allowed in standard JSON.
What is the difference between formatting and minifying?
Formatting adds line breaks and indentation to make JSON readable. Minifying removes all unnecessary whitespace to make it as small as possible for sending or storing.
Does formatting change my data?
No. Only whitespace changes; keys, values and their order stay the same.
