Video Cutter

Quickly trim MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV videos in your browser without quality loss, and optionally remove the sound. Your file never leaves your device.

Fast cut, not frame-accurate The video is cut without re-encoding, so it takes seconds and there is no quality loss. However, cuts snap to the video's keyframes: the output may start slightly before your chosen start and its length may differ from your selection by 0.5–2 seconds (more for some videos).

How to use the Video Cutter

Video Cutter lets you quickly extract part of a long recording, a short clip for social media or a section of a presentation. Because the video is not re-encoded, it takes seconds and the picture quality stays exactly the same. In exchange, cut points follow keyframes, so it is not frame-accurate.

  1. Drag your video into the box or open it with "Choose video".
  2. Drag across the timeline to select the part you want and adjust it with the edge handles.
  3. Check it with "Play selection" and type exact start and end times if needed.
  4. Turn on "Remove audio" if you want a silent video.
  5. Press "Cut & download"; your file downloads in the same format as the original.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't the cut start exactly where I selected?
The tool cuts without re-encoding. In compressed video, frames that can be decoded on their own (keyframes) usually appear every 1–2 seconds, and the cut follows them. The output can therefore be a few frames to about 2 seconds longer. Frame-accurate cutting requires re-encoding the video.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. The video is processed on your own device in the browser and is never sent anywhere. The connection is only used to load the page and the video library.
Will the quality drop?
No. The picture and sound data are copied as they are; resolution, bitrate and quality stay exactly the same as the original.
Which formats are supported?
MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV. The output keeps the original format. If your browser cannot play a video (e.g. H.265/HEVC), there is no preview, but you can still cut it by typing the times.
Is there a file size limit?
You can open files up to 2 GB. The cut clip is built in browser memory, so very large clips may be slow on phones.
